Excel 2010 - Minimizing and Hiding the Ribbon

If you think the ribbon is taking up too much of your window space you can minimize it so that it only displays the tab names.

Minimize the Ribbon by Unpinning it

The ribbon can be minimized by right-clicking anywhere on the ribbon and selecting Unpin the Ribbon.

The ribbon can also be minimized by clicking on the up arrow at the far right end of the ribbon.  Moving the cursor over the button shows a tool tip.

The ribbon remains fully functional when it is unpinned.  Clicking on one of the tabs expands the Ribbon to its full view.   The ribbon will return to its minimized state after you click on one of the commands on the ribbon.  It will also return to a minimized state if you click on any cell in the worksheet.

Restore the Ribbon to its Full State by Pinning it

If you click on one of the tabs when the ribbon is unpinned you will see a pin  at the far right end of the ribbon.  Clicking on the pin will return the ribbon to a pinned state.   The ribbon can also be returned to its pinned state by right-clicking anywhere on the ribbon and then selecting Unpin the ribbon; this will remove the check mark in front of it.
